Legal obligations of an employer:
If your nanny earns more than £100/week you have a responsibility to:
- Pay employee’s national insurance contributions and income tax
- Keep payroll record and provide pay slips
- Pay statutory sick pay and maternity pay (can be claimed back)
Salary guide:
Below are the salary guidelines according to the on going market rate:
- Au pairs £65/week - £100/week (25 to 35 hours per week)
- Mothers help £200/week-£300/week
- Nannies-daily £450/week or £9-10/hour net - live in £250-450 net
- Housekeepers £260-450/week net or £9/hour net
- Temp.nannies £9/hour - £10/hour
- Emergency nannies £14-16/h net
- Night nannies £90 +
- Weekend nannies £10-12/h
- Babysitters £7-8/hour
- Proxy parents £150-200/24 hour net
- Doula £12 / hour gross
Maternity Nurses:
Maternity nurses are self-employed and liable for their own tax and national insurance
contributions. Their salaries vary according to their age, experience and on the
number of babies they are responsible for.
These are the salary guidelines for maternity nurses (6days/24h):
- Maternity nurse trainee £650 gross/week
- Single baby £750-850 gross/week
- Twins £800-1150 gross/week
- Triplets £1000-1500 gross/week
- Day/night rates £12-17 gross/hour
- Travelling expenses for maternity nurses
Travel Expense:
The client is requested to reimburse all reasonable travelling expenses for interviews
and travel at commencement of post.
For overseas positions the employer is responsible for all travel and medical insurance and the cost of the return flight.
